Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) help physicians visualize the internal structure and functions of the body. These technologies use an electromagnetic field to create images that help to review muscle and joint disorders, evaluate tumors, and show abnormalities in the heart and blood vessels. MRI and MRA often rely on chemicals called “contrast agents” that are injected intravenously to enhance the appearance of blood vessels, tumors or inflammation.
